In 2013 the Austwick Community Players annual production put a brand new spotlight with a chaotic and hilarious ancient Roman theme!
The 2013 show ‘Forum or Against ‘Em?’ took a sideways look at the parishes of Austwick and Lawkland as they might have been around the first century AD. It transported the audience back through the mists of time to when bulls were oxen, men wore skirts and women wore the trousers. The Roman Imperial Army met its match in the women of Austwickia as mayhem and sleight of hand rule the roost.
“We successfully applied for a grant from Awards for All Big Lottery Fund to buy new lighting for the events. This was to save the annual drain on our limited income by hiring gear” explained group chairman George Gooch. “The lighting with other new equipment were on show for the first time this year and we delivered lots of fun and laughter for the audience!”
The show was written and produced by the group of 15 actors and stage crew, and the event has been a highlight of the local calendar for over 40 years. The show is put on every year as a free supper and entertainment for the over 65s in Austwick and Lawkland parishes, which is paid for at two public performances on subsequent evenings.
