Our W.I. meets in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of the month. Why not come along and see what is on offer? Visitors are always welcome.
Members and friends were taken on a ‘pub crawl’ at their January meeting courtesy of Alan Hemsworth. Alan gave a humorous, informative and fascinating illustrated talk on ‘Inn Signs’ concentrating on ancient and modern signage.
At the end of January 22 members enjoyed a belated Christmas Lunch at The Traddock.
In February, members thanked the Committee for their hard work during the year by organising an evening’s entertainment and refreshments. Heather Slater gave a very interesting talk about her life as a nanny to the children of Prince Alwaleed in Saudi Arabia. At the time she lived in his Palace and met several celebrities as well as caring for the young Prince and Princess.The evening concluded with a light buffet and drinks which had been organised by Kathleen Morphet.
Roger Moore was the guest speaker at the March meeting. He talked about his passion for bridges, their structure and construction, not only concentrating on those in the locality but as far away as the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
David Tomlinson was the guest speaker at the April meeting. David was the technical advisor for Warburtons and he began his talk with the history of the company. During the evening he described and demonstrated the ingredients needed for bread making and as a conclusion numerous bread products were raffled to members.
Lizz Cook was the guest speaker at the May meeting. Her talk entitled ‘Threads – A history of fascination’ was complimented by numerous samples. She began with knotting which dated back to ancient times through to modern techniques which showed the skills she has mastered over the years.
Pat Broad head is leading a walk around Stainforth on Monday May 21st, meet at the church at 1pm.
The next meeting on June 14th is ‘British from the Bottoms Up!’ by Shirley Crisp in Austwick Parish Hall at 7.30pm.
