Our W.I. meets in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of the month. Why not come along and see what is on offer? Visitors are always welcome.

Members and friends were taken on a ‘pub crawl’ at their January meeting courtesy of Alan Hemsworth. Alan gave a humorous, informative and fascinating illustrated talk on ‘Inn Signs’ concentrating on ancient and modern signage.

At the end of January 22 members enjoyed a belated Christmas Lunch  at The Traddock.

In February, members thanked the Committee for their hard work during the year by organising an evening’s entertainment and refreshments. Heather Slater gave a very interesting talk about her life as a nanny to the children of Prince Alwaleed in Saudi Arabia. At the time she lived in his Palace and met several celebrities as well as caring for the young Prince and Princess. The evening concluded with a light buffet and drinks which had been organised by Kathleen Morphet.

Roger Moore was the guest speaker at the March meeting. He talked about his passion for bridges, their structure and construction, not only concentrating on those in the locality but as far away as the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

David Tomlinson was the guest speaker at the April meeting. David was the technical advisor for Warburtons and he began his talk with the history of the company. During the evening he described and demonstrated the ingredients needed for bread making and as a conclusion numerous bread products were raffled to members.

Lizz Cook was the guest speaker at the May meeting. Her talk entitled ‘Threads – A history of fascination’ was complimented by numerous samples. She began with knotting which dated back to ancient times through to modern techniques which showed the skills she has mastered over the years.

A small group of members enjoyed an interesting walk around Stainforth guided by Pat Broadhead. The walk concluded with afternoon tea at Knights Stainforth.

At the beginning of June several members enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging with Melanie Greenhalgh.

At the June meeting Shirley Crisp talked about her journey from selling underwear to manufacturing it. Unique British Underwear is made to exacting standards entirely in the United Kingdom. Building on years of experience, Shirley created Unibu to offer great fit and quality, using natural materials for a variety of shapes and sizes. She brought along samples of her work.

Members enjoyed ‘A Summer Evening Buffet’ at Old Hall Cottage, Feizor courtesy of  Elizabeth and David Booth. Luckily the rain that threatened to spoil the evening came to nothing and guests were able to dine al fresco.

There will be an evening of walking games on Thurs 26th July followed by supper at the Game Cock. Meet at 6.30pm at the playing fields.
