Austwick Street Market Report 2019

Another Classic Cuckoo Festival – Austwick Street Market 2019

Despite a heavy May Day downpour first thing, the sun came out and Austwick put on another brilliant Street Market on Bank Holiday Monday.

A fantastic amount of over £15,000 was taken on the day. This all goes towards the upkeep of the main village facilities; the playfields and village hall.

The wet morning didn’t dampen spirits with things getting off to a great start with the children’s fancy dress parade through the village lead by Zoot the children’s entertainer on stilts and the brilliant Giggleswick and Settle Brass Band.

Other stars of the show had to be Gunner and Ribble, the heavy horses from Thwaites Brewery who looked the part enjoying the attention outside the village pub, The Game Cock.

The Austwick Amble fell race had over 160 entrants in the adult race and 64 juniors. The adult race was won by Tim Stratton of City of York & Leeds University, who broke the men’s course record by 3 seconds and took home a £50 bonus kindly donated by 2 local residents. The first lady back was Helen Thornhill of Ribble Valley Harriers (and Leeds University) who came very close to breaking the ladies course record. Thank you to Candelisa Property Development for their very generous sponsorship of the fell race this year.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year another success and a great day out for so many. A special thanks to the main sponsors, Fairhurst Concrete, Tarmac and Settle Coal and all the volunteers who give up their time before, during and after the Street Market.
